Carter Machinery Offers Advanced Operator Training Techniques with New Cat® Simulators

Salem, Virginia – Seeing a need for formal heavy equipment operator training in the region, Carter Machinery has invested in the Cat® Heavy Equipment Simulators, a unique, state-of-the-art training solution, that provides a total training experience for heavy machinery operators. The training system, along with instructor-led programs with certified dealer instructors, and e-Learning courses through Carter University, offers operators the necessary skills needed to maximize production and improve safety on the job site.

Four machines currently are configured for training: Articulated Truck, Large Wheel Loader, Medium Excavator, and Large Track Type Tractor (D8). In addition, the  Advanced Hydraulic Excavator Simulator System offers VR NOW technology, with a three-monitor configuration.  Also included is a back monitor for Track Type Tractor Ripper viewing.  It then moves and vibrates as the simulated machine interacts with the terrain. The lessons include exercises that teach control familiarization, how to perform a walkaround inspection, site clearance with trees and boulders, pad building, road construction, ditch building, and so much more.  Most importantly, the testing is done against industry standards to measure the true efficiency of the operator.

“Our customers need training to increase production, reduce costs, and teach accurate and consistent techniques. These Cat Simulators, along with our other operator training courses available through Carter University, are designed to offer our customers the training and support they need to improve the skill of their operators,” says Loraine Taylor, Corporate Development Manager at Carter Machinery.  “We are excited to offer these classes to help our customers elevate their operators to higher levels of proficiency to improve productivity and cut down on unnecessary wear and tear on their machines.”

In addition to and as part of operator training services, Carter University offers safety training to provide all-around training and preparedness for new employees.  Upon completion of each course, Carter University offers a certificate that provides the necessary coverage for OSHA requirements. To keep up with demand, additional courses are being added to the curriculum this summer at Carter Machinery’s corporate headquarters in Salem, with others being added throughout the state of Virginia.
