Parts Return Policy

To serve the best interests of all our customers, Carter Machinery Company, Inc. (“Carter”) offers a Parts Return Policy subject to the following conditions:

  1. Ordering Method
    • Online Orders
      1. CATERPILLAR (CAT) Parts returned within sixty (60) days of purchase will receive credit in the amount of the full purchase price of the returned part.
      2. Other vendor/supplier parts will be accepted for return only if Carter’s supplier will accept return from Carter. Credit will be issued as a refund equal to the amount Carter receives from such supplier, less freight charges incurred.
      3. Initiation of a CAT Parts return request must be made by contacting a Carter location via phone, email, or in-person.
      4. CAT Parts must be returned to a Carter location.
      5. Proof-of-Purchase is the customer’s responsibility.
    • Over the Counter
      1. Parts furnished from in-stock inventory (not identified as non-returnable):
        • Parts returned within thirty (30) days will receive a refund in the amount of the full purchase price of the returned part.
        • Parts returned after thirty (30) days but before sixty (60) days will receive a refund in the amount of the full purchase price of the returned part less 10% restocking fee.
        • Parts returned after sixty (60) days of purchase are not eligible for refund; unless, subject to Carter’s sole discretion, Carter agrees to accept such ineligible parts. Upon Carter’s acceptance of an ineligible part, Carter shall determine the form of refund and its value on a case-by-case basis.
        • Proof-of-purchase is the customer’s responsibility.
      2. Non-Stock CAT Parts (not identified as non-returnable) & All Other Vendor/Supplier Parts
        • CAT Parts considered non-stock at time of purchase and returned within thirty (30) days of purchase will receive a refund in the amount of the full purchase price of the returned part, less a 20% restocking charge.
        • Other vendor/supplier parts will be accepted for return only if Carter’s supplier will accept return from Carter. Credit will be issued as a refund equal to the amount Carter receives from such supplier, less freight charges incurred.
        • Proof-of-purchase is the customer’s responsibility.
      3. Non-Refundabe Parts
        • Parts labeled non-returnable as indicated by an asterisk (*) on parts shipping orders are non-returnable and non-refundable.
  2. Shipping Charges
    • Shipping charges incurred for returned parts will not be refunded
  3. Condition of Parts and Packaging
    • Parts, including original packaging, must be in new saleable condition. New, saleable condition means at a minimum, the absence of any indication that the parts have been installed on or removed from equipment, no signs of deterioration in quality/condition, sealed parts kits have not been opened and tamper-proof that has not been disturbed.
    • Material cut to order, such as radiator hose, copper tubing, weather stripping, battery cable, etc., is non-returnable and non-refundable.
    • Hoses and Tubes must be capped.
  4. Core Returns
    • Cat® Remanufactured/Carter Exchange:
      • The value of credit shall be determined in accordance with the standards set forth in the Caterpillar Core Acceptance Guide and Carter Exchange Pricing Guide. (available upon request)
      • The customer will receive (I) 100% of the value of the purchased core as a credit for cores returned within thirty (30) days following purchase of the replacement unit, (II) 90% of the value of the purchased core as credit for cores returned within ninety (90) days following purchase of the replacement unit, and (III) 0% of the value of the purchased core as credit for cores returned after ninety (90) days following purchase of the replacement unit.
    • Truck and Marine Engine Dealers:
      • For remanufactured cores purchased as dealer inventory, the dealer will receive (I) 100% of the value of the purchased core for new or used cores returned within twelve (12) months of the remanufactured core purchase, and (II) 0% of the value of the purchased core as a credit for new or used cores returned after twelve (12) months of the remanufactured core purchase date.
      • For remanufactured cores purchased as non-inventory (emergency or warranty), the dealer will receive (I) 100% of the value of the purchased core as credit for used cores returned within thirty (30) days of the remanufactured core purchase date, (II) 90% of the value of the purchased core as credit for used cores returned within ninety (90) days of the remanufactured core purchase, and (III) 0% of the value of the purchased core as credit for used cores returned later than ninety (90) days from the remanufactured core purchase.
  5. Exceptions
    • Exceptions to these policies will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, in Carter’s sole discretion.
    • Parts rejected as unacceptable and unreturnable will be held for a period not exceeding thirty (30) days to allow time for customer to advise disposition. In the absence of a written notice advising disposition within the thirty (30) day period, Carter will assume all rejected parts are to be discarded; and Carter shall accept no further responsibility for the said Parts.
